Deck Specifications
Listed on the description page for each deck plan are the dimensions. Below are some helpful tips to help decipher what measurements correspond to which side.
NOTE: Measurements are listed in feet and inches unless otherwise noted.
Example:
12' 6'' x 10' = Twelve feet and six inches by ten feet and no inches.
1. Decks and Dimensions
Most basic deck shapes will have at least two measurements. The first measurement will be where the deck meets the house. The second is the distance the deck is out from the house.
First measurement: Where the deck meets the house.
Second measurement: Where the deck ends outward from the house.
Example:
20' x 18' - DECK SIZE
Staircases and concrete landings are not included in size or square footage
2. L-Shape Decks and Dimensions
L-Shape decks are broken down to two sets of measurements. The first set is for the left side of the deck and the second set is for the right side. The first dimension of each set is the where the deck meets the house.
First set of measurements: The left side or A in the diagram below
Second set of measurements: The right side or B diagram below
Example:
12' x 14' LEFT SIDE - DECK SIZE
8' x 14' RIGHT SIDE - DECK SIZE
To best determine if a deck size is right for your home, mark the measurements on the property with stakes and connect them using string.
3. Double Level Decks
Double level decks will have at least two measurements. The first measurement will be where the deck meets the house. The second is the distance the deck is out from the house.
First measurement: Where the deck meets the house.
Second measurement: Where the decks end outward from the house.
Example:
28' x 20’ 6'' - DECK SIZE
Staircases and concrete landings are not included in size or square footage
4. Pool Decks
Pools decks come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Below is an example to help determine if a pool deck is right for your pool.
First set of measurement: The recommended maximum and minimum size of the pool.
Second set of measurement: The size of the deck. The first measurement is the across the deck. The second measurement is towards the pool.
Example:
18' - 21' DIAMETER POOLS
27' x 19' 5'' - DECK SIZE
D = The recommended maximum and minimum pool diameter.
5. Decking Patterns:
A single deck plan may consist of several different decking patterns. Below are the most commonly used.
